My Learning Goals
At the beginning of the new school year, students should have an opportunity to set their goals for the year in Chinese class. If they are beginners, ask students what they know about the Chinese language and what they would like to know. (KWL worksheet)
If students are returning to school, they will draw their portrait and write 1-2 goals they want to achieve in the new school year. Write on the board some ot their suggestions - improve pinyin, get better at pronunciation, learn to write 10 new characters a week, write a Chinese rap, or practice speaking more…)

For older students, they will brainstorm with a partner what their goals are for the new school year. Review the elements of learning a language - Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. Suggest some possible goals. For example: A Speaking Goal - I want to improve my pronunciation or A Writing Goal - I want to take more care when writing characters.
