Video: My Daily Routine
Authentic video clips are a powerful way to bring real-life language into the Chinese classroom. A short video such as “Learn Chinese: My Day” provides students with meaningful context for learning vocabulary related to daily routines, time expressions, and common verbs. Teachers can use this type of video to help students hear natural pronunciation while seeing how language is used in everyday situations. (
In class, start by playing the video once for general understanding. Ask students simple questions such as: What activities did you see? What time did they happen? This encourages students to listen for meaning rather than individual words. During the second viewing, pause the video to highlight key vocabulary such as 起床 (wake up), 吃早饭 (eat breakfast), 上学 (go to school), 学习 (study), and 睡觉 (sleep).
After watching, students can practice using the language themselves. For example, they can sequence the activities from the video, match pictures to sentences, or create their own “My Day” timeline in Chinese. A speaking extension is to have students interview a partner about their daily routine using questions like 你几点起床?你什么时候吃晚饭?
